Research of adverts!

As move into the design and productions of my advert I have done some research into existing artists adverts. The advert which I will create will be a poster for my artist's single/album. The general codes and conventions which I will need to include are:

- the artist
- the song/ album name
- the release date of the album
- could feature the CD cover somewhere on the poster.

The poster would normally be portrait but some artists have chosen to use landscape posters previously. These posters would usually feature in magazines or bus stops for example, given this I have decided that a portrait would be best suited for these locations and will provide optimum exposure for my artist and the upcoming CD.

But I think this only works because Britney Spears is so established and this style of poster works with the theme of her album titles 'Circus'. As my artist is just starting off I feel as if it would be more beneficial for her to feature on the poster.

Rethinking of my narrative!

As I am doing more filming and thinking about how to bring my narrative to life in a way which is effective and will be understood by the audience I have realised that my narrative is too hard to convey on a small budget in approximately 4 minutes. Therefore I have decided to keep with the genre and my target audience and make the narrative more about a failed relationship this links much better with the genre and lyrics of the song and more easily understood visually, I can still use my storyboard as the majority of shots drafted on there will still apply but the storyline will just change slightly as a result of my filming experience so far and a development of my ideas!

More filming planned!!!

Tomorrow, I have scheduled for Patsy, who will be starring in my music video to come over and we can get some more filming done! I have decided to get some outdoor shots tomorrow which will be a combination of performance, narrative and general filler shots! We have had some bad weather lately so hopefully the weather is good enough so I can shoot as I'd like to use as much natural lighting as possible. We will be working in my house and around my house which means that we can use a variety of costumes and therefore get a variety of shots. I'm looking forward to getting as much shooting done as possible tomorrow and then finishing the rest of it round Patsy's house on Tuesday! Hopefully then I will have finished all the shots and will be able to start editing and watching my video come to life!!! Can't wait!!! 

Font research!

I have begun to look at the production of my Digipak and started with the fonts which could be possibilities. I am currently using DaFont.com for ideas as to which type of font I want for the design of my Digipak.

By researching the different fonts available I have got an idea of the type of font that I want to use, the font which I envisage for my Digipak is sans serif and I want the font to be big and slightly rounded but not to an extent where it looks childish, I'd prefer it to be clean and crisp making it look more professional.


As part of my research for what font to use and what different fonts are possible, I started with the History of Typography as seen in the video below...



From this video, I have learnt a lot about the different types of available and how they came about and what significance they have. It was very useful as part of my research.

The research into typography has shown me how important fonts are in creating a successful brand name as if used correctly it quickly becomes well known and recognized as being associated with a specific brand. This is what I hope to create through choosing a good font for my Digipak and Poster, a font which is unique but at the same easy to read and easily recognizable. 

Digipak Research

What is a Digipak?

"Digipak is a patented style of CD, DVD or BD packaging, and is a registered trademark or AGI-Shorewood, an Atlas Holdings LLC Company"

A Digipak is packaging used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums, they typically take a gatefold aka book style with a paperboard or card stock outer binding. This usually includes one or more plastic trays which are capable of holding a CD or DVD. The front of the digipak usually has some aspect of what the artist represents and what their predominate genre is. The digipak is most likely to embody a theme and a message linking to the artists image or the theme of the album, the emphasis is on the artist brand name which leads to an increase in the artists popularity. The digipak should exemplify the artistic and creative approach the artist is taking throughout the music. All aspects of the Digipak, brand image and music video are all interwoven together. The digipak benefits the artist and their music as its promotional aspect within the music industry as it helps bring awareness to artists and their music therefore selling the artist to an audience and encouraging consumers to buy and listen to their music.

Development of my idea of lights!

I really like the idea of using fairy lights and the effect which they create when used properly on camera, so today I found some Christmas lights which we had and I will use these against a back drop and hopefully this will create the same effect! WISH ME LUCK!

here are some of the lights I found: 

The lights have little blue stars at the bottom which I thought are quite cute and fit with the genre, they may not be able to be seen on camera due to lack of focus on them or they may not be seen due to the type of shot which I use i.e. close-up or mid-shot but we will see I can't wait to try shooting with them and seeing how they come out. 

Recce Shots

For my music video I will be using a variety of different locations and I have thought that by using a variety of locations I could get a variety of shots and will have a greater choice when it comes to editing.

The first location which I have chosen is Patsy's house- she is starring in my video so will obviously be there when I need to shoot and it isn't that far from me so I can get there easily when I need to shoot. 

These shots are of the front of Patsy's house and it shows the location at which much of my footage will be shot. 

This it's the front door and I think that the steps are good to shoot on and I think it'll be good for some of the scenes where the character feels isolated as it's almost as if she's been locked out leaving her completely alone.

The are the steps down to the basement, they are painted all white which means I can use them however I want if I need the angle of them could produce an interesting angle if I decide to use them to shoot on.

Here are some different angles of the inside the basement, I think it fits my theme and genre of the video as it is predominately black and white with hints of bright colours which makes it more girly. It also fits the theme of a music video because as you can see from the shots above there is already some music instruments in there such as the keyboard and there is also music notes painted on the walls which keep with the idea that it is part of the mise-en-scene of a music video.
